A few days ago, we talked about a few of the ways that our caregivers promote independence for our clients. Today, we’re going to continue talking about that topic, with a focus on how caregivers enable older adults to live in their own homes for as long as possible.

Light Housekeeping

Our caregivers do light housekeeping for our clients. This helps them take care of their homes, and thus means that they can stay in them longer. They do not have to worry about spending their energy on vacuuming, especially if they have fatigue due to their conditions. This also gives our clients some extra time for self-care.

Getting Out and About

Our caregivers can help our clients on their regular errands (like grocery shopping) or on specific social outings. I’ve talked about this before in the form of holiday gatherings. This can help our clients maintain a little bit of their identity as well as their independence, since they would not be able to go out by themselves. Going out with someone’s assistance can be much better in that aspect than being confined to one’s house, depending on the person.

Medication Reminders

Our clients have to take their medications by themselves. However, they can set reminders for our clients to know when they need to take their medications. Medications can be important in our clients having a high quality of life and can enable their independence by managing their conditions. Of course, this is a completely general statement. It is up to our clients to manage their medications with their physicians.

These are just a few more of the ways that home care can foster independence in our clients.
