I have written a lot about holiday caregivers. Here is some advice on how to prepare to have a caregiver over the holidays this year and in years to come.

Communicate With The Office

Make sure you communicate with the office exactly what the client’s needs are going to be over the holidays. Is the caregiver going to drive the client to a gathering and assist them there? Is the caregiver going to assist the client with transfers while they attend an event in their home? Are they going to receive their normal care on the holiday? This is all important information for the office to have so that the care team can all be on the same page. The office will also be able to tell you what activities are out of our scope of care.

Make Sure Visitors are Aware There Will be a Caregiver

If the caregiver will be assisting the client at a family event, do your best to inform attendees about the caregiver and their purpose at the function. If the client would like the carer’s purpose hidden, that is their right and be sure to check with them on how they want their caregiver introduced.

Have Fun

The purpose of a holiday caregiver is to provide vital support for our clients during the holidays. We provide the clients with the care they need and their families with the peace of mind that their loved one is receiving excellent care.

Happy holidays, everyone!
