I talk so much about how home care preserves the independence of our clients as it pertains to multiple different topics. However, I have not done a deeper dive on this in a long time. So this week, let’s talk about some of the ways that home care fosters independence our clients.
Not Taking Over Tasks
Our caregivers assist with different tasks. They do not take over tasks, especially ones that the clients can perform by themselves. This not only can deter people from continuing to utilize home care, but it undermines their independence. For example, if a client can mostly walk without assistance, and can toilet without assistance, but needs someone to help them on and off the toilet, the caregiver should assist them with getting on and off the toilet. Or if the client can chew and swallow without assistance, but needs help keeping their hand steady while eating, the caregiver would assist with that task.
Supporting Your Routine
Many of our clients have their own daily routines that currently work well for them. Our caregivers are simply stepping in and assisting our clients, as well as providing companionship. Caregivers will also help you develop your new routine with them. They are here to help you be as independent as possible while making sure that you are safe.
I will probably posting a second part to this post at a later date, so stay tuned to the blog. How has getting a caregiver improved your life?
