Now that cold weather is in full swing in Louisville, I thought that we should go over some winter safety tips really quick. I wrote some posts earlier about winter preparedness, but now that the weather is here, here is what to do.
Only Go on Cleared Walkways
Please stay inside if your driveway and walkways are not clear. If you fall, your likelihood of falling again increases for the future. This means fall prevention is a big deal for older adults. So please stay inside if you can. This is one of the big reasons that winter preparedness is so important.
Take Care of Your Skin
I’ve talked about this before, but make sure you are taking care of your skin. Dry, cracked skin is more common in the winter and it can be extremely painful. You can also still get a sunburn or sustain sun damage in the winter. Make sure you are drinking water, wearing lotion, especially on areas like the feet, and wearing your sunscreen.
Reach Out to Your Community
Be tapped into what is happening in your community and what resources are available to you. Your neighbors may be able to help shovel your walkways. You can also look into services like grocery delivery in your area.
Please stay safe and be well. If you’re prepared you should be fine so try not to worry too much. I will see you all later this week for Resolution January!
