There are many paths to becoming a caregiver, and today we’ll detail a few. As we’ve discussed before, our caregivers come from many different backgrounds. If you are thinking about how to become a caregiver, here are some common pathways. This is not an exhaustive list, but it is a few examples of the type of people who usually make good caregivers for us.
Certified Nursing Assistant or Nursing Students
For our clients who need more advanced care (like toileting, bathing, transfering, etc.) we hire Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). CNAs who want to work with one or two clients consistently are usually in high demand at CareBuilders. I’m putting nursing students under this umbrella as well. Some of them are also CNAs, and they are usually also qualified to assist with personal care. Of course, even if they are not, they can provide other assistance while they are building their skills at school. We would never assign anyone who was not qualified to provide personal care to a client who needed it.
People With Personal Caregiver Experience
One of the other ways that people become caregivers is after caring for a loved one in a personal capacity. If you’ve cared for a friend or loved one, please let us know exactly what you assisted with in detail. You should also be prepared to provide references for this personal caregiving.
Housekeeping Experience
We will also have caregivers who come to us with a housekeeping or meal preparation background. These caregivers work well with clients who do not need personal care, but who need light housekeeping assistance. We will occasionally have clients who have multiple caregivers, and one will provide more housekeeping assistance.
These are just a few of the common ways that someone could become a caregiver with us. If you are interested in applying, please call us at (502) 458-2273.
