Building strong relationships with older adults is good for their social and emotional health. It can also ensure they have a strong support system, which leads to less pressure on one caregiver. It also important for caregivers to have social relationships so that they can find respite. If you want to learn more, I also have a post about older adults staying active.

Local Organizations

You can get involved in your local YMCA, your religious establishment, or your community center. These can be a great way to make friends that you see regularly. If you’re nervous about joining, you can ask to join some of your friends to their book club or their church. You don’t have to go out all on your own if you don’t want to do that. And even if it doesn’t work out, at least you know you put yourself out there.

Volunteering

One great way to get involved in your local community is through volunteering. You can even volunteer at your grandkids’ school. There are lots of ways to volunteer for causes that don’t require you to be able to leave your house. For example, there are charities that accept knitted blankets., or other items. You can host a clothing or supply drive. Caregivers may be able to help with transportation to and from volunteering activities.

This was a short one for today, but I hope this was helpful. If you would like to hear more, let us know! Stay safe, drink water, and see you soon!
